Released in 1932, The Mummy marked the first of many appearances of the Mummy in the movies.
Dr. Muller and Norton examine the mummy of Imhotep.
The magic of Jack Pierce transformed Boris Karloff into a 3,000 year old mummy. It took
eight hours to apply the makeup for just the opening scene of the film, in which he barely moves.
Norton reads the Scroll of Thoth (never a good idea) and awakens
The Mummy. This scene didn’t make it into the movie though, which is too bad. In the final cut, all we see is Karloff's
hand taking the scroll as Norton looks on in horror.

10 years later, Frank Whemple meets and falls in love with Helen Grosvenor. Frank just happens to
be the son of Sir Joseph Whemple, who led the dig that found the mummy of Imhotep. Helen just happens to be a patient of Dr.
Muller, friend and colleague of Sir Joseph. And they all just happen to be in Cairo.
Also in town is Ardath Bey, who happens to be Imhotep, sans bandages. Coincidently Helen
also happens to be the reincarnated Princess Anckesen-Amon, the long lost love of Imhotep.
Ardath Bey shows Helen her past lives and reveals how he came to
be buried alive for the sacrilege of trying to bring Anckesen-Amon back from the dead.
Dr. Muller convinces Whemple that Ardath Bey is the evil Imhotep, a
living Mummy, and that he plans the same fate for Hellen.
Imhotep has cast a spell on Helen, awakening the spirit of Anckesen-Amon
within her, causing her to revert to her past self.
Unfortunately for Hellen, one must be dead in order to be brought back to
life. Imhotep prepares to implement Phase I.
Unfortunately for Imhotep, this is what got him buried alive in the first
place. Isis takes exception to his plans and destroys the Scroll of Thoth and Imhotep crumbles into dust.
